Golden Finance reported that Francesco Pesole, an analyst at ING, said in a report that the dollar may appreciate if data released later show that U.S. core inflation remained high in December. He said the market consensus expects core inflation to be 0.2% and 0.3% month-on-month, with the average expectation being 0.25%. ING expects the data to record a gain of 0.3%, which could fuel expectations of a cautious approach by the Federal Reserve to cut interest rates, helping the dollar strengthen. He said high inflation would make investors nervous about price pressures even before the prospect of U.S. President-elect Trump imposing trade tariffs was considered. (Golden Ten)
