The change of chairman of the US SEC that everyone is paying attention to has finally come to an end in the past few days.
Trump finally nominated Paul Atkins as the new SEC.
Hester Peirce, the SEC encryption mom who was very vocal in the past, also tweeted her support early:
Atkins has been with the SEC a long time ago , the last time he was nominated as an SEC member by George W. Bush in 2002, and he stayed until 2008.
When he was at the SEC, Bitcoin had not yet been launched.
After leaving the SEC, Atkins established a consulting company called Patomak Global Partners, which mainly helps clients provide compliance consulting services.
What’s interesting is that this consulting company received a well-known client in January 2022: FTX.
From the time Patomak provided consulting services to FTX until the FTX thunderstorm, the cumulative service time was as long as 10 months.
After this battle, I believe Atkins must be very familiar with the dangers of the encryption circle~
But even if FTX is thundering, SBF is really defrauded. , Atkins still believes that the reason why the matter is so big is because US supervision is not suitable for the new technology of encryption.
Since 2017, Atkins has also been the co-chairman of Token Alliance, which is also a lobbying organization that vigorously promotes the large-scale implementation of crypto assets~
It can be said that Atkins is a big man who understands encryption and is deeply involved in the development of the industry.
In addition to the chairman, the SEC will also have four members. A total of 5 people make up the top leadership of the SEC.
Currently, two Republican commissioners support encryption and three Democratic commissioners restrict encryption.
Among them, current SEC Chairman Gary Gensler and his younger brother Jaime Lizarraga are both determined to resign after Trump takes office.
In the beginning, Lizarraga, a diehard, was firmly opposed to the Bitcoin spot ETF.
Because of Lizarraga’s resignation, after Atkins, who supports encryption, succeeds as SEC chairman, the president can also nominate a commissioner.
According to Trump’s style, he might nominate another pro-encryption boss as an SEC member.
By then, committee members who support encryption will account for 4 seats, and the future is promising~
