Golden Finance reported that European Central Bank board member Piero Cipollone said on Friday that euro zone banks need a digital euro to respond to U.S. President Donald Trump’s efforts to promote stablecoins, a cryptocurrency usually pegged to the U.S. dollar. This would help lure more customers away from banks and strengthen the case for the European Central Bank to launch its own digital currency.
