According to Decrypt, Indian man Anurag Pramod Murarka was sentenced to 121 months in prison by a U.S. court for running a global money laundering network and providing money laundering services for more than $20 million in criminal proceeds. It is reported that Murarka provided money laundering services on the darknet market under the pseudonyms "elonmuskwhm" and "la2nyc" from April 2021 to September 2023. He instructed customers via encrypted communications to send cryptocurrencies to specific wallets, which then converted the funds into cash through India's hawala network. The investigation revealed that Murarka knew his clients were involved in illegal activities such as drug dealing and computer hacking. Under federal law, Murarka must serve at least 85 percent of his sentence and will be on three years of supervised probation upon release.
