On March 18, Solana released a video ad for its May New York Conference on Monday, but it was severely controversial because the content involved gender issues, which caused strong controversy, and was subsequently deleted within hours. Although the official has been removed from the shelves, the video is still widely circulated on social platform X.
In the video, a character, “America”, was treated with “rational thinking syndrome” and the therapist asked him to “create a new gender” or “focus on pronouns.” "I want to lead global technological innovation and build an on-chain ecosystem, not invent gender." This content has been criticized as disrespect for gender and queer groups.
Several industry insiders expressed dissatisfaction with this, with Adam Cochran, partner at Cinneamhain Ventures calling the ad “unbelievable”, while David McIntyre, a former director of the Solana Foundation, said Solana could have delivered a more positive message rather than making jokes about serious social issues.
The Solana Foundation previously stated its commitment to "diversity, fairness and respect" and has not yet responded to the incident.
