According to Beincrypto, the Nigerian Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) destroyed a large cryptocurrency criminal gang and arrested hundreds of potential criminals, 53 of whom have been formally prosecuted. Police recovered only about $200,000 in assets, but have confirmed that nearly $3 million in other types of deposits exist. Given the global spread of criminal activity, the total amount involved in the operation and the location of money laundering for these assets are uncertain.
These fraudsters reportedly carried out a number of different actions, but they all fall into the category of cryptocurrency crime.
