Golden Finance reported that a report released by the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston on Thursday showed that the full tariffs the Trump administration seeks to impose will put significant upward pressure on already high inflation. Boston Fed reports that Trump will impose 25% tariffs on Mexico and Canada and 10% tariffs on China, which will boost the rise of the Personal Consumer Spend Price Index (PCE) by 0.8 percentage points, which is favored by the Federal Reserve inflation indicator. Given that inflation is still above the 2% target, this level of upward pressure could cause trouble for the Fed. The Fed expects inflationary pressure to gradually ease, but tariffs will lead to higher prices in U.S. consumers, which has great uncertainty about the impact of this on inflation data.
