Floki launches debit card that can be used anywhere Visa and Mastercard are accepted

Floki and Mastercard launch a debit card that will be available in 31 European countries in both physical and virtual forms . The card supports eight blockchains and can be topped up using FLOKI and other cryptocurrencies.

A card that works with 13 cryptocurrencies

Floki debit cards are issued in 31 /regions, which correspond to EU and EFTA member states. Virtual gift cards can be used worldwide. These cards are issued in conjunction with Mastercard and can be used anywhere Visa and Mastercard are accepted.

There are no transaction fees, but there is a 2% recharge fee. There is also a one-time setup fee. The daily limit is 5,000 Tether.

The card can be recharged using Floki, Bitcoin, Ethereum, Tether, (USDT, EURT, XAUT), Circle, BNB, SOL, DOGS, HMSTR, TON, NOT.

Floki announced its intention to issue a debit card in March, one of the first elements of its roadmap. The cryptocurrency, named after Elon Musk’s dog, has an active community of supporters who call themselves Vikings. It has a market cap of $2.63 billion and a total supply of 9.67 trillion coins.

Floki’s flagship Valhalla game metaverse mainnet is expected to launch in the first quarter of 2025, after having been delayed multiple times before. Its ecosystem is based on the Ethereum and BNB smart chain networks.

Visa, Mastercard, and the World of Cryptocurrency

The Floki debit card joins a growing group of cryptocurrency payment cards backed by the so-called Visa-Mastercard “duopoly.”

Mastercard launched a debit card in the GCC region in early December in partnership with exchange Crypto.com, and launched a credit card in Europe in August 2023 with Bulgarian decentralized lending platform Nexo.

In April this year, Mastercard, Baanx and decentralized finance company 1inch Network has also launched a cryptocurrency debit card in Europe. Decentralized finance wallet MetaMask also issues payment cards in Europe with Baanx and Mastercard.

Visa recently struck a deal with Puerto Rico-based fintech firm FV Bank and the Avalanche Foundation to issue debit cards.
