Golden Finance reported that Pepperstone senior research strategist Michael Brown said in a report that the rise in the U.S. unemployment rate should be enough to solidify the case for the Federal Reserve to cut interest rates by 25 basis points next week. The number of U.S. nonfarm payrolls in November was 227,000, higher than the 214,000 expected by analysts in a Wall Street Journal survey, but the unemployment rate rose to 4.2% from 4.1% reported last Friday. Fed policymakers may be able to skip a January rate hike if they are concerned about Trump's efforts to thwart a pullback in inflation early in his presidency, or about potential upside inflation risks.
