Golden Finance reported that on January 22, North Dakota Department of Financial Institutions Commissioner Lisa Kruse told members of the House Industry, Commerce and Labor Committee that residents of the state submitted 103 cryptocurrency scam complaints to the FBI in 2023. A total of US$6.5 million in losses was incurred during the year. The FBI reported in September that Americans lost $5.6 billion to cryptocurrency fraud in 2023 and documented 5,500 cases involving cryptocurrency ATMs, with losses exceeding $189 million. As a result, North Dakota lawmakers have introduced a bill aimed at cracking down on crypto ATM transactions.
