Golden Finance reported that Bitcoin mining company Hut 8 has submitted a motion to the court requesting the dismissal of a class action lawsuit initiated by its shareholders. The company said the lawsuit was prompted by a short-seller report that it paid too much for a company with serious operational problems.
Hut 8 said in a Dec. 2 filing in New York federal court that short seller J Capital Research engaged in "a campaign to depress Hut 8's stock price for its own benefit."
The company programmed: "This case stems from attempts by short sellers to obtain monetary proceeds from their short selling positions in Hut 8 at the expense of ordinary shareholders. These 'short and twist' schemes are often accompanied by shareholder class action lawsuits , the lawsuits repeated the short sellers' negative arguments and called the report a 'corrective' disclosure."
J Capital Research released a report in January claiming that Hut 8 overstated the profitability of its acquisition of US Bitcoin Corp (USBTC), concealed operational issues at a Texas factory, and potentially hid an ownership stake.
