According to news on December 2, during the recent 16th BRICS Leaders’ Meeting in Kazan, Russia, there were reports on the joint launch of the decentralized multilateral cross-border payment system - BRICS Pay (BRICS Pay) by the BRICS countries. Information spread online and it was announced that a pilot project would be launched in China. Search for "BRICS Pay" and even a decent "official website" appears, with English and Chinese versions respectively.
However, Caixin’s investigation found that the reports from multiple authoritative media outlets claimed by the “official website” were actually only spread in some self-media articles, and their sources were unknown. Overseas news about BRICS Pay also appears on cryptocurrency news websites such as Bitcoin.com.news, Cointelegraph, CCN (Chinese Community Network), etc., and is not reported by official media.
Caixin learned from relevant departments that China’s monetary authorities are not aware of the so-called “BRICS Payment”, nor are they involved in it, nor have there been any plans to launch a pilot in China. The spread of "BRICS Payment" news through informal channels is more of a false news spread by the currency circle to hype a certain cryptocurrency. The so-called "official website" is also a "rogue website".
