According to news on January 19, next Monday’s Eurogroup meeting will discuss tokenization, distributed ledger technology and central bank funds for wholesale settlement, as well as the status of the retail digital euro. The Eurogroup is an informal body of economic and finance ministers that meets to discuss issues related to the euro. Hyun Song Shin, Economic Advisor and Head of the Monetary and Economic Department of the Bank for International Settlements (BIS), will participate in the discussion. He is involved in the Agorá project, a BIS project that aims to combine tokenization and wholesale CBDC to speed up cross-border payments using agent banking. The project involves 41 institutions and seven central banks, including the Bank of France as the EU representative.
