Golden Finance reported that the scope of Operation Chokepoint 2.0 has expanded from the crypto industry to technology giants such as Visa and Mastercard. In a post on X, Balaji Srinivasan, the former chief technology officer of Coinbase, shared a screenshot of a letter sent by U.S. lawmakers to Visa, Mastercard, and Stripe urging them to withdraw from the Meta-backed Libra project.
According to previous reports, U.S. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen was suspected of participating in killing the Libra project, which was disclosed by Meta’s former head of encryption David Marcus.
Balaji shared an excerpt from a letter sent to various fintech giants by Senators Brian Schatz and Sherrod Brown, which threatens a "censorship" of Visa and all payment service providers associated with the project. He said the "scrutiny" of unrelated activity sent a signal to regulators to "fabricate violations and impose fines until the target capitulates".
