Golden Finance reported that researchers from cybersecurity company Check Point recently revealed that a new macOS malware, Banshee, successfully evaded detection by antivirus software for more than two months by borrowing the encryption scheme of Apple security tools. Forbes warned that the malware contained "real and present dangers," and the New York Post quoted CheckPoint's report as saying that more than 100 million Apple users could "fall victim." However, Patrick Wardle, CEO of endpoint security startup Double You, said in an interview: "There's really nothing special about this particular sample." He believes this situation may be more hype than a threat. While the malware appears to target "software-based crypto wallets" and is still concerning, Wardle believes it has received undue media attention.
