Newport City Council has been refusing access to the rubbish site where the hard drive was accidentally dumped in 2013, with the BBC reporting that a judge found there was "no realistic prospect of success" in the case at trial. Howells mined Bitcoin in 2009, when mining cost just pennies, and stored it on a hard drive that was later mistakenly discarded.
