Golden Finance reported that British judge Keyser KC dismissed the application of James Howells, an IT engineer in Newport, Wales, to recover a Bitcoin hard drive worth $735 million buried in the Newport landfill, citing environmental risks. Newport City Council has been refusing access to the rubbish site where the hard drive was accidentally dumped in 2013, with the BBC reporting that a judge found there was "no realistic prospect of success" in the case at trial. Howells mined Bitcoin in 2009, when mining cost just pennies, and stored it on a hard drive that was later mistakenly discarded.
