Golden Finance reported that two people familiar with the matter told CNN that in recent days, Trump's national security adviser candidate Mike Waltz has been weighing several proposals to end the Russia-Ukraine conflict. While the specifics of the strategy are still being worked out, Trump officials are likely to push for a ceasefire sooner rather than later to temporarily freeze the conflict while the two sides negotiate. The first is Kellogg's proposal as the special envoy for the Russia-Ukraine issue, that is, the premise for continuing to provide military assistance to Ukraine is Kyiv's participation in peace negotiations with Russia, and the proposal of "a U.S. policy of seeking ceasefires and resolving conflicts through negotiations." Meanwhile, Ukraine's desire to join NATO will be "on hold" for a longer period of time to prompt Russia to participate in negotiations. The second option is a proposal supported by former U.S. Ambassador to Germany Rick Grenell. Grenell has previously expressed support for the establishment of "autonomous regions" within Ukraine, although he did not explain in detail what that would look like. Another idea is to allow Russia to retain areas it currently controls in exchange for Ukraine joining NATO, although few in Trump’s circle appear willing to invite Ukraine to join NATO anytime soon.
