Golden Finance reports that a crypto forum administrator and father of four claimed that he was forced to hide his whereabouts with his family after being the target of an attempted kidnapping. The Canadian man said his attackers intended to torture him and mistakenly believed he owned a large amount of Bitcoin.
Police told the Canadian man, who has not been named to protect the child's identity, that they could not guarantee his family's safety and advised them to relocate because the alleged attackers may have links to organized crime. The family then decided to keep changing Airbnb accommodations and survive on their savings.
Two adults have been arrested and face charges of kidnapping conspiracy and possession of illegal firearms. Two juvenile suspects were also arrested. However, the alleged attacker has no criminal record and has been sentenced to home arrest pending trial in March, leaving the family concerned about their safety.
