South Korea imposes sanctions on North Korean cryptocurrency hackers and IT staff

Golden Finance reported that the South Korean government announced today the imposition of sanctions on 15 individuals and one entity from the Democratic People's Republic of Korea who are involved in illegal cyber activities including cryptocurrency theft. South Korea's Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement that the 15 North Korean individuals had been working for Bureau 313 under the Ministry of Machinery Industry of the Workers' Party of Korea. The unit, which has been subject to U.N. Security Council sanctions since 2016, is responsible for North Korea's weapons production, including its ballistic missile program.
