Golden Finance reported that according to sources, Microsoft has been working on adding internal and third-party artificial intelligence models to support its flagship artificial intelligence product Microsoft 365 Copilot, diversifying existing OpenAI basic technologies and reducing costs. Microsoft, a major backer of OpenAI, is seeking to reduce its reliance on the artificial intelligence startup this time around, unlike in recent years when it touted its access to OpenAI models. In addition to training its own small models, including the latest Phi-4, Microsoft is also working to customize other open models to make 365 Copilot faster and more efficient, sources said. It is reported that the purpose of this move is to reduce Microsoft's cost of running 365 Copilot and possibly pass the cost savings to end customers.
