Golden Finance reported that the U.S. Federal Court of Appeals suspended a lower court order last week on April 3 local time, which gave government staff and consumer rights advocates a major victory against the Trump administration's attack on the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB). However, judges in the U.S. District of Columbia Circuit Court of Appeals have basically maintained the status quo, retaining an interim agreement to prevent the government from firing employees or canceling contracts, and saying they understand that the agency will continue to perform its legally required functions. The ruling said the suspension would give the appeal court time to consider the Department of Justice’s urgent request. The three-judge panel warned that this should not be interpreted as a sign of what decision they will eventually make. Earlier, a U.S. federal judge issued a preliminary injunction to prevent the Trump administration from disbanding the U.S. Consumer Financial Protection Agency and preventing the agency from firing employees on a large scale. Justice Department lawyers said they intend to appeal the order.
