According to the Washington Post, three people familiar with the matter revealed that White House aides drafted a proposal to impose a tariff of about 20% on at least most goods imported to the United States. If this plan is implemented, it will have a huge impact on the securities market and the world economy. Moody's chief economist Mark Zandi said that assuming permanent tariffs take effect this quarter and trigger strong retaliation from U.S. trading partners, the U.S. economy will almost immediately fall into recession and will last for more than a year, with unemployment exceeding 7%. Zandi describes this result as the worst case scenario.
