Golden Finance reported that the vote to renominate US SEC Commissioner Caroline Crenshaw was canceled on Wednesday, which may mean that she will lose the chance of re-election in the SEC. The U.S. Senate Banking Committee was scheduled to vote last Wednesday on whether to extend Crenshaw's tenure at the SEC, where he has served since 2020. The vote was originally scheduled for Wednesday, but the Senate website now shows it has been cancelled. A Senate aide with knowledge of the situation said the vote has now been blocked and cannot be rescheduled. That means Crenshaw's chances of being re-elected as SEC commissioner are next to zero. To remain at the SEC, Crenshaw must win approval from the Senate Banking Committee before the end of this congressional session, but the 2024 congressional term ends on Dec. 18. After that, Crenshaw could continue to seek re-election to the committee, but she would have to win approval from the new Republican-controlled Congress, which is obviously unlikely.
