Nova Energy has obtained permission to build a gas-powered cryptocurrency mine data center in the town of Frenchcreek, Pennsylvania. The license is based on the approval of three lean-combusted natural gas engines that will power cryptocurrency mining. According to a 2023 UN study, natural gas is the energy source for 21% of global Bitcoin mining operations, second only to coal (45%).
