According to Golden Finance, according to Cointelegraph, several cryptocurrency users have recently received a large number of scam emails impersonating exchanges Coinbase and Gemini. The emails claim that users must transfer assets to self-custodial wallets by April 1 and provide pre-generated mnemonics.
The scammers claimed that the court required users to manage their wallets due to a class action lawsuit, and that Coinbase would only operate as a registered broker.
Coinbase has confirmed this fraud and stressed that mnemonics will never be sent to users, and users should not use mnemonics provided by others.
