Golden Finance reported that U.S. Rep. Tom Emmer called for priority to promote legislation supporting stablecoins at a hearing on the U.S. House Financial Services Committee on March 11, while saying the Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC) is a threat to U.S. values.
Emmer re-introduced the "CBDC Counter-surveillance National Act" in the House on March 6, which aims to prevent future governments from launching the U.S. CBDC without explicit approval from Congress. "CBDC technology is inherently non-American" and warned that allowing non-elected bureaucrats to issue CBDCs "may disrupt the American lifestyle."
