Golden Finance reported that the Russian Central Bank has postponed the full launch of the digital ruble project indefinitely and there is no new timetable. It is reported that the Russian Central Bank began testing its digital currency through a limited pilot program in August 2023, which involves 12 banks and about 600 employees, and has tested wallet functions, transfers and automatic payments. Companies are also exploring the use of digital rubles for transactions, with preliminary plans for wider adoption by July 2025. The Russian Central Bank Governor Elvira Nabiullina allegedly confirmed the extension, stressing that the additional time will help financial institutions adopt a model that suits their clients. She also stressed that the delay in launch was to ensure that the digital ruble could benefit all stakeholders.
