According to Golden Finance, cybersecurity company Kaspersky, a cybersecurity company, said hackers are creating hundreds of fake GitHub projects to trick users into downloading malware that encrypts and steals credentials. Kaspersky analyst George Kucherin said in a February 24 report that hackers have created hundreds of software sources on GitHub, hosting including remote access Trojans (RATs), information stealing programs and clippings. Board hijacking program fake projects. Some of these fake projects include a Telegram bot that manages Bitcoin wallets and a tool that automatically interacts with Instagram accounts. Coochelin added that malware makers “spentlessly” to make these projects look legitimate, including “well-designed” information and instruction files that “probably generated with artificial intelligence tools.” The mastermind behind the malicious project also artificially exaggerated the number of "submissions" (i.e. modifications to the project), and added multiple references to specific modifications, making people think that the project is actively improving.
