Golden Finance reported that according to Hong Kong media Ta Kung Pao, mainland virtual currency funds have set their sights on Ethiopia as far away as Africa, mainly because the local hydropower resources are rich, and each kilowatt hour of electricity is equivalent to only two or three cents in RMB. In recent years, a large number of Chinese companies have set up mining farms in Ethiopia to mine Bitcoin, Ethereum and Litecoin. It is reported that Bitmain, which is engaged in the research and development and production of mining machines, is also involved in the Ethiopian mining business. According to its official website, the first phase of Baohui is located in Ethiopia, with a total capacity of 150 megawatts.
There are currently more than 20 mines in Ethiopia, the vast majority of which are invested and operated by Chinese companies, and most of the mining machines are also produced by Chinese companies, including the Antminer and Avalon mining machines produced by Bitmain. Professionals estimate that Ethiopia has become an emerging mining gathering place in the world. Its mining capacity currently accounts for about 2.5% of the global Bitcoin network computing power and will continue to rise in the future.
