Golden Finance reported that about 75,000 federal employees signed a voluntary resignation plan initiated by the "Ministry of Government Efficiency" led by Musk. That's lower than what the White House hopes for, making it more likely to have further mass dismissals.
The figure accounts for about 3% of the federal government's 2.4 million civilian staff, with the White House previously targeting 5% to 10%, people familiar with the matter confirmed. The so-called "buyout" program allows federal employees to leave in February but continue to receive their wages until the end of September. The program ceases accepting applications Wednesday night. The Trump administration has repeatedly warned federal employees that a "buyout" plan may be their best opportunity. Trump has asked federal agencies to prepare for layoffs. (Jin Shi)
